Summary of work performed:

HighSpans served as Engineer of Record performing geotechnical and structural design services for the replacement of a timber dock, three concrete platforms, and 189-feet of seawall located in Key West, FL.  The seawall utilizes a tieback and pinned vinyl sheet pile system, and the platforms incorporate heavy concrete caps on square prestressed concrete piles.  Two SPT borings were performed to a depth of 50-feet.  The seawall design required significant analysis due to high surcharge loads near the seawall from a marine forklift and mobile boat hoist.  The geotechnical report covered the subsurface investigation findings as well as the recommended design parameters and values for the piles and seawall.  Major project features include enhanced protection from the aggressive marine environment by utilizing vinyl sheet pile walls, GFRP reinforced concrete, and stainless-steel clad reinforced concrete.
